Clapham: Victorian Terrace Transformation
Within a distinguished Victorian terrace in Clapham, we transformed the kitchen into an expansive space for both cooking and entertaining. Working closely with the architects, the design reveals itself gradually as you move through the house, creating moments of surprise within the period setting. Designed for a professional chef and her mother, both accomplished cooks, the kitchen needed to perform at a near-professional level whilst retaining the warmth and elegance of a family home, with entertaining very much at its heart.
A Study in Light and Space
Strategically positioned roof lights flood the space with natural light, allowing distinct zones to flow seamlessly together. By opening up the room and carefully considering each element, the kitchen was transformed into a dramatic and highly functional culinary setting. The cooking zone centres around an ILVE range cooker, paired with a bespoke Western-style extractor that delivers powerful yet discreet performance. A substantial island finished in Little Green Basalt provides a striking contrast to the surrounding cabinetry in Farrow & Ball Ammonite.
The Professional Touch
The kitchen reflects the clients’ culinary expertise through carefully considered details. A glazed spice cabinet within easy reach of the cooking area turns everyday ingredients into a practical and visually engaging feature. Professional-grade performance continues with a Monolith refrigeration system, offering precise temperature control and flexible storage. An integrated appliance garage discreetly houses mixers and preparation equipment, ensuring functionality without compromising the clean aesthetic.
Entertaining in Style
The social nature of the space is supported by multiple seating options and thoughtful storage. The open-fronted island, detailed with wooden slats and subtle internal lighting, creates an inviting focal point without visual heaviness. A dedicated bar area with tailored storage enhances the kitchen’s role as an entertainment space, while built-in hallway storage ensures a seamless transition from entrance to conservatory.
